Katie: A True Inspiration

Katie also known as It's Katastic :)
A true inspiration!
Her sets are beyond gorgeous and she was so kind to allow me to interview her here it is:

how long have you been on polyvore?
I have been on Polyvore for a little over 4 months now. Kinda feels like a lot longer!

what is your favorite set (fashion and art) you have made?
I have so many favorites that I have done. I don't know how to just narrow it down to 2. Let's see, I really like My Art set called "Free Falling"

Free Falling
Free Falling by It's Katastic :) on Polyvore.com
It is kind of calming and relaxing, while still being edgy powerful at the same time. As for fashion sets, I love them all.
I guess ONE of my favorites would have to be "Funky Brewster"

I love bright colors and I think it's so loud and fun! I actually had a dream about this outfit one night!

what is your inspiration for you sets?

I don't really have a particular inspiration behind my sets. I usually just browse through tops, skirts, belts, and shoes until i find several I like. Then, I usually start with one of those pieces and build on it with softer or louder pieces based on colors and textures. Sometimes, I will base my sets around particular emotions. For example, if I am feeling girly, I might make a set with lots of pinks, whites, beiges, purples, etc. I made a set when I was feeling empowered to make change in my life and I used words such as Faith, Climb, and Move Mountains based on the song "The Climb" by Miley Cyrus. So, I guess you could say I do draw some inspiration from words, songs, colors, and feelings.

what body type do you use as inspiration for you fashion sets?
really don't base my sets around a particular size. I base them around outfits and pieces that I would like to wear. I am pretty average in size and I think looking at most of my sets, I could see girls of several sizes wearing these outfits. An item that I use a lot in my sets is a belt. I wear belts a lot to cinch my waist and make it look smaller and me look thinner. What girl doesn't want to look thinner? I think this is a fashion tip that girls of most sizes could use.

why do you use polyvore?
I use Polyvore because I am addicted!! I never thought when I first joined this site, that I would become so wrapped up in it. Polyvore is kind of an escape from the reality of our day to day lives and I think a lot of people feel that way. I can come on here and make an outfit that I would love to have with pieces that I know I could never afford, but it still makes me happy to picture myself wearing them. It's also good for mixing and matching things that you may have not thought would go together. I hope through this site that I can inspire people as much as others have inspired me. I like to just make sets that people would love to wear and want to go out and buy. It's just a great place to use creativity through fashion, art, and interior design sets. It's so fun, it should be illegal! Well, not really! :)

who is your favorite member? which of their sets is your favorite?
There are so many members on here that I think make gorgeous sets. How can I pick just one? I won't pick a favorite but I will name a few people. Lately, I have been really enjoying @Nini@'s fashion sets. They are always colorful with great accessories and lots of stuff going on. Tanya777 and Dassybella♥ have fabulous art sets that make me want to go outside and lay down in the grass or pick some flowers. I never miss J@smine(TopShop Contest)'s contests! Rluvsg gives me lots of faves and comments and is very sweet. Of course I can't forget ☮whitney&missyƸ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ. Whitney befriended me and we talked a lot and found out we have some pretty common interests! Thank you all for the inspiration, faves, comments, and generosity!

I asked Katie if she would grace us with a set made just for this blog and here it is:

Whitney's Blog Set
Whitney's Blog Set by It's Katastic :) featuring Christian Louboutin heels

For this outfit, as you can tell I used the colors black, white, and gold. I created a very summery look that would be great for going out to dinner, to a lounge, or to a club. I like to call it flashy, but classy.

This outfit could really be for anyone, but it suits girls with an hourglass shape really well. A halter top can easily lift and perk up your chest if you are larger on top. Also, the ruching effect on the top can hide or take away from any problem areas you might have with your midsection. As I said in the interview, a belt is great for cinching the waist and making it look smaller and thinner. A belt can create a waistline for girls who are heavier through the middle or have a boxy or boyish figure. I love the shorts on this outfit because they look like a skirt. I don't know if anyone still wears or calls it a skort, but that is what the bottom piece is. The ruffles add lots of detail and dress up the shorts. If you have great legs, shorts and short skirts are your thing! If you have a larger butt, I have been told that ruffles can sort of camouflage or distract from a larger area.

Gold heels spice the outfit up and play off all the gold accessories that I have added. Any girl looks great in heels. I paired up a smaller gold clutch to match the heels and play off each other with the white and black of the outfit and the gold studs on the belt.

You may have noticed that the chest seems a little bare and that is because I personally think that a halter top looks better without a necklace. It is a good way to show off your chest and cause less irritation and commotion around your neck. I added some gold bangles and a gold and white ring to add a little more flash since there is no necklace.

As far as nail polish and make up go, you can do anything you want. Obviously, black and gold would look good, but it really depends upon what you like best. I have chosen some white nail polish, but black or gold would look great too. Remember, always spritz yourself with some great perfume before you go out. Your scent can show confidence and knock a man off his feet.

When wearing an outfit like this, you must have confidence. Confidence is the key to looking and feeling good about yourself and your outfit.

Thank you Katie ♥ Whitney

I made this set for a Song Title Challenge Group! For this set the lyrics spoke Jimmy Choo to me! Who doesn't love a man who knows your shoes!!

Recently in my Dress with Art Group I asked my members to create outfits accenting Jimmy Choo shoes here are the winners.

Jimmy Choo, here's to you.
Jimmy Choo, here's to you. by Ilaina Khairulzaman featuring Lanvin earrings
Ilaina Khairulzaman is a designer from Malaysia. She placed first in my contest! Her design is not only gorgeous but I believe it is simple enough that it doesn't over power her choice of Jimmy Choo shoe. She was kind enough to explain her outfit:

"Well, let me start by saying Jimmy Choo is from Malaysia, and so am I. Haha. Okay, irrelevant I know. Moving on. Okay, these are the reasons why I chose the items.
The shoes : I love wedges. They have so much attitude.
The dress : It's Springtime, and even though we don't have Spring in Malaysia, I can still dress like there is.
The hat : Malaysia's too hot, so I need some shade.
The clutch : I love clutches. Fullstop.
The ring : It just caught my eye. And I believe that rings are the ultimate accessory.
The earrings : Aren't they just pretty? I chose them just because of that. Haha.
The necklace : Again, it's SPRING!

Okay, that's basically it. I hope you'll like my set. Bye! (:"

Here are the other winners all are amazingly great!!!

How To Wear Tunics

How To Wear Tunics

Tunic Days (Read the notes :D)
Tunic Days (Read the notes :D) by ☮ωhιτηεϒ&ⓜⓛⓢⓢⓨƸ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ featuring Jimmy Choo clutches

For this blog I gave my fellow Polyvorans as task. One person rose to the challenge and her set is below!!!

On a personal note I made this set with the idea of summer on my mind! Pairing a Tory Burch Tunic with a pair of distressed shorts. This would be IDEAL for those mild summer days when its just warm enough and cool enough to be...perfect! I also decided give this outfit the edge by using some Jimmy Choo essentials the Desert sandal and the Char leather clutch! Add some hot shades, silky scarf, a cool headband, awesome belt, and flashy jewelry you have a winner! Another great thing about tunic everyone can wear the way to dress it shorts, pants, or skirt is up to you!

The price of this outfit is a tid bit pricey but you can always look around for similar looks from lesser priced stores. Tory Burch Tunic- $ 395.00, Distressed Shorts from 7 for all mankind- $ 150.00, Desert Sandals by Jimmy Choo- 387.oo GBP, and the Char Leather Clutch by Jimmy Choo- 735.00 GBP

Now Presenting My Guest Blogger

Tunic Talk
Tunic Talk by charvidacharmer featuring Charles David heels & wedges

charvidacharmer is a fantastic stylist from India! Her styles are amazing and she amazes me everyday especially with her rise to my challenge! This is how she explains her set Tunic Talk:
"Alright - this get-up is pretty expensive, but you can always get a cheaper look at the thrift stores. This is obviously for a day out, like a luncheon, when its summer/spring but you're socialising indoors and the air conditioner is up full blast, if you know what I mean! The look is quite understated with hints of gold, silver and caramel. This set encompasses the current clutch craze along with some chunky bracelets ceding to the current statement jewelery trend. Overall, a classic look, which in my humble opinion, can never go wrong. Constructiive criticism welcome!"

How To Wear Bolero Jacket

How To Wear Bolero Jackets

Linger

Linger by ☮ωhιτηεϒ&ⓜⓛⓢⓢⓨƸ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ featuring BKE bracelets

As a example I have included my polyvore set Linger. I created this using a bolero jacket. I paired the jacket with a corset top and a waist high skirt to balance the length and the fit of the skirt with the length of the bolero. I used the color of the jacket to bring out the blue in the plaid of the skirt.
This outfit consist of, discluding the accessories, the satin bolero from Charlotte Russe for $20.99, the corset top from Charlotte Russe for $29.99, the high-waisted plaid skirt from Ruche for $39.99, and Juliet Kitten Heels from Joan Shepp for $250.00.

For this specfic item of clothing I personally think anyone could pull this off! Short, tall, skinny, curvy. This jacket is even great for larger chests and small chests, of course it's all about the proper fit and if your worried you can always ask a sales associate when purchesing.

Thanks for reading and I would love any feedback you all are willing to give.
